Works of Art is the home to a wide array of stylists, from 20 and 30 year veterans up to recent cosmetology grads. The common denominator here is that every one of our stylists love doing hair.
Art Cardiel, owner, is very attune to the ever-changing needs of the clients, which brings a constant stream of educators and classes into the salon to keep our stylists up-to-date with the latest trends and styles. “If we can’t give it them, they will go elsewhere.” says Cardiel. “Besides, we like to keep ourselves motivated and challenged so that we stay excited about doing hair. If we are not excited, our clients will not be either.”
Some of our stylists have backgrounds as Platform artists or educators for major manufacturers, or as freelance stylists in the entertainment industry. The educators travel around the country teaching other hairstylists the latest techniques in the area that they have been trained in. Whether that specialty is in hair extensions, styling, cutting or coloring, they can be found at the top hair shows in the country teaching their craft. The other stylists here like to stay active in the freelance world of music videos, photo shoots, commercials and movies. Each and every stylist’s resume shines with the names of top c0mmercial and advertising clients, along with A-list celebrities. A constant stream of actors, musicians, producers, directors, writers and artists from every Hollywood industry visit the salon regularly to keep their locks looking good, but are also assured of the anonymity that starts directly with Cardiel’s philosophy of “EVERYONE who comes here is a celebrity.”
The laid-back, loft style atmosphere is no accident. With the sunlight streaming through the giant windows, together with the beautiful hardwood floors, brick walls, and art deco stations, Cardiel’s vision of his salon is evident. “I want everyone to come here and feel comfortable.” And we can guarantee that you will feel right at home when you step into Works of Art Hair Studio.
Works of Art Hair Studio is celebrating it’s 10th year in it’s current location on Hollywood Boulevard near Vermont Street, in the hip, stylish Los Feliz shopping and entertainment district. Situated above one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, Umami Burger, and down the street from one of L.A.’s top art galleries, La Luz de Jesus, Works of Art Hair Studio fits right in to make this little strip of Hollywood Boulevard a great destination.
From art openings to fashion shows, Works of Art Hair Studio has been a major part of the Hollywood scene for over a decade. It has, however, maintained it’s easygoing atmosphere. Not wanting to become an overly trendy, uncomfortable place for wanna-be celebs, the hair studio is and always has been a comfy neighborhood hang, with many clients just stopping by to say hello to Art or his mother Dee, our receptionist and celebrity in her own right, who has been with Art since day one.
The salon is ever-changing, due to Cardiel’s love of art. There is always something new to look at, something new to talk about. The atmosphere always feels fresh and exciting, which is important for both the clientele as well as the stylists who work there. “I don’t want anyone feeling bored, especially myself!” laughs Cardiel. “If I’m bored, my clients will be bored. That’s not going to happen.”.
There will always be new happenings here at Works of Art, so please check back to find out what Art is planning next!
